Defending champions Juventus
scored a stoppage-time winner
to beat Bologna 2-1 on Wednesday
and extend their unbeaten Serie A
run to 49 games.
Paul Pogba headed in the winner to
cap an excellent game from the
young midfielder, who showed exactly
why Manchester United were so
desperate to keep him before his
move to Italy in the offseason.
Fabio Quagliarella put Juventus in
front in the 54th minute, but
Bologna midfielder Saphir Taider
levelled in the 71st.
It was the Turin-based giants' ninth
win in 10 domestic league games and
another victory to add to their terrific
run. However, Pogba's winner came
in the dying seconds and for a while
did not look like coming.
Juventus are now four points ahead
of closest rivals Inter Milan after
Andrea Stramaccioni's side recorded
their sixth succesive victory, beating
10-man Sampdoria 3-2. Inter went a
goal behind but second half-goals
from Diego Milito, Rodrigo Palacio and
Fredy Guarin gave them the win.
It sets up a mouthwatering clash
between the two bitter rivals
this weekend.
Juventus are closing in on AC Milan's
record of 58 Serie A games unbeaten,
set over the 1990-91, 91-92, and 92-93
seasons.
Napoli fell below Inter, and six points
behind Juventus, after losing 1-0 to
Atalanta. Carlos Carmona scored in
the 64th minute to inflict Napoli's
second defeat of the season.
Lazio are fourth in the league behind
Napoli, and nine points behind
Juventus, after a 1-1 draw against
Torino. Kamil Glick headed Torino into
an early lead but Stefano Mauri
levelled shortly before the hour mark.
Topsy-turvy AS Roma, who have the
best attacking and worst defensive
records in the league, scored first but
lost 3-2 at Parma.
The irrepressible Antonio Di Natale
was again on form for Udinese
scoring twice, including a last-gasp
equaliser in a 2-2 draw
with Catania. Lucas Castro and
Francesco Lodi scored for Catania.
Cagliari celebrated their biggest win of
the season when they beat Siena 4-2
to consolidate their mid-table
position, while second-from-bottom
Chievo grabbed only their third win of
the season with a 2-0 defeat of
Pescara.
