FA fine Cole for Twitter rant

The Football Association has fined
Chelsea and England left-back Ashley
Cole £90,000 for his recent Twitter rant.
The 31-year-old was angered by an
independent panel casting doubt on
his evidence during the John Terry
racism case - and vented his anger on
the social networking site.
He tweeted after the FA verdict was
announced: "Hahahahaa, well done
#fa I lied did I, #BUNCHOF*****."
The post was quickly deleted and he
released the following statement via
his solicitor: "I had just finished training
and saw the captions on the TV
screens in the treatment rooms about
what was said in the FA commission
ruling about me.
"I was really upset. I apologise
unreservedly for my comment about
the FA."
But despite the apology and his recall
to the England side for Wednesday's
1-1 World Cup qualifying draw in
Poland, the FA have chosen to punish
Cole financially for the outburst.
An FA statement confirmed: "Chelsea's
Ashley Cole has been fined £90,000
after he admitted an FA charge in
relation to a Twitter comment which
was improper and/or brought the
game into disrepute.
"Cole, who had requested a non-
personal hearing, was also warned as
to his future conduct."
