Burak Yilmaz headed a late equaliser
as Galatasaray grabbed the first point
of their Champions League campaign
with a 1-1 draw against 10-man CFR
Cluj.
Yilmaz's 77th minute goal was certainly
no less than the Turkish hosts
deserved, having dominated
possession and chances throughout
most of the contest.
However, it was the Romanian club
which went ahead thanks to an own
goal after just 19 minutes when a cross
by Pantelis Kapetanos struck Dany
Nounkeu and rebounded into his own
net.
The visitors were reduced to 10-men
nine minutes later as Matias
Aguirregaray collected his second
yellow card of the night.
On a rain-soaked pitch, Galatasaray
were presented with an excellent
opportunity to equalise in the 34th
minute when the ball struck Laszlo
Sepsi on the hand only for Felipe Melo
to miss from the penalty spot.
Although the home side remained the
more potent threat in the second half,
it was left to substitute Yilmaz to level
matters 13 minutes from time as he
latched onto Nordin Amrabat's cross
to score Galatasaray's first goal in
Group H.
