CFR Cluj 1-2 Manchester United

Robin Van Persie's double helped
spluttering Manchester United come
from a goal down to win 2-1 at CFR
Cluj and maintain their 100% record in
Group H of the Champions League.
United stuck with the same back four
so embarrassed by Tottenham on
Saturday and were breached too easily
again with Patrice Evra and Jonny Evans
asleep as Modou Sougou set up
Pantelis Kapetanos to sweep in the
opener (14).
United, although utterly dominant in
possession, were sloppy with the ball
and despite early efforts by Wayne
Rooney and Anderson, the English side
often lacked a cutting edge and can
count themselves fortunate to draw
level so quickly.
It was all thanks to a Dutch shoulder as
the Cluj defence switched off when
Rooney floated in a free-kick for Van
Persie to miss his header but still
nudge the ball in.
.
The Rooney and Van Persie double act
was at it again to strike the important
second three minutes after the break,
with the Dutch striker flicking in an
exquisite volley from his partner's cute
through-ball.
Anybody who had seen United's
defence in action this season would
have known the final half an hour
would not be plain sailing and the
recalled keeper David de Gea was at his
best to tip Ricardo Cadu's header over.
Still the white of United kept control of
the ball but with a one-goal lead they
were all too vulnerable, and they
needed the acrobatics of their Spanish
keeper to secure the spoils, saving a
close-range blast from Rafael Bastos in
injury time.
