Liverpool 0-0 Stoke

Liverpool missed the chance to move
above Stoke after being held to a 0-0
draw at Anfield.
Both teams had chances to win the
game, with the Reds twice hitting the
woodwork, but had to settle for a
point apiece - a result which keeps
them both in the bottom half of the
table.
Stoke had the best of the early
exchanges, with former Liverpool
midfielder Charlie Adam almost
silencing the Kop with an effort which
Jose Reina did well to save.
The Reds keeper was then almost
caught out by a dipping effort from
Michael Kightly - the Spaniard back-
pedalling furiously to tip the ball over
the bar.
Back came Liverpool, with a long-range
effort from Steven Gerrard turned
away by Asmir Begovic, before the
Stoke keeper was beaten by Daniel
Agger, only for the Dane to see his
effort bounce just wide.
Brendan Rodgers' team looked the
most likely team to break the deadlock
after the break, with Glen Johnson
twice going close, while Luis Suarez
looked certain to score when he
bamboozled the Stoke defence with a
mazy run before sending his shot
inches wide of the post.
Liverpool, who twice hit the post late
on through Suarez and Raheem
Sterling, were frustrated by the dogged
visitors, who dug in to hold on for a
valuable point.
