Mark Webber will start the Korean
Grand Prix on pole after edging out
Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel in
Q3.
Webber produced a superb lap of
1:37.242 at the end of qualifying to
claim the 11th pole of his career and
demote Vettel, who crossed the line
0.074 seconds behind.
But Vettel will start the race ahead of
championship rival Fernando Alonso,
who is four points clear in the
standings but could only qualify fourth
in his Ferrari, behind McLaren's Lewis
Hamilton, with the Lotus of Kimi
Raikkonen and Alonso's team-mate
Felipe Massa fifth and sixth respectively.
Jenson Button will start from 11th on
the grid after failing to qualify for Q3.
He appeared to lift to allow for caution
flags when Daniel Ricciardo stopped in
sector three in the final seconds of Q2
while others, including Nico Rosberg,
improved their times while the yellows
were out, dumping the McLaren man
out.
Hamilton, 42 points adrift of Alonso,
recovered well after a disappointing
Friday, but was fortunate to avoid a
collision with Michael Schumacher in
the pitlane during Q3 when the
German pulled out of his pitbox into
the path of his McLaren.
Alonso's task on Sunday will not be
helped by the fact he will have one less
set of super-soft tyres than his rivals
after being forced to use a set to get
through Q1, which he ended in 16th.
