Liverpool Linked With Rock Solid PSG Defender

Liverpool are chasing unwanted PSG
centre-half Diego Lugano but will face
competition from Bayern Munich for
the Uruguayan’s signature, according
to German website 4-4-2 .
Lugano joined the mega-rich Ligue 1
outfit from Fenerbahce in summer
2011 but struggled in his first season
in Paris with form and fitness, making
just 12 appearances for Carlo
Ancelloti’s side.
The arrival of £32m Brazilian centre-
half Thiago Silva from AC Milan has
further marginalised the 31-year-old
this term, and Lugano will now seek
an exit in the January transfer
window.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich are both
thought to be tracking Lugano, who
has a contract until 2014 but is
available for as little as £4m.
The uncomprimising defender was
considered one of the best centre-
backs in the world not long ago, after
a fabulous World Cup in 2010 as
captain of semi-finalists Uruguay.
But the move to PSG has not worked
out and the club’s petrodollars mean
he has been sidelined in favour of
more glamourous names.
